November has been a really quick month so far!
Here is what we are up to....
7th Grade Boys and Girls have been learning about Early Christian Art and have been working on Bean Mosaics in class. Before that, we worked on some mixed media paintings titled Mountain Streams and Falling Leaves.
The Bean Mosaics will be complete this Thursday and I will try my best to post again by Friday so that you can see the outcome.
Here are the 7th Grade Boys working on the Bean Mosaics in class today. They finished the project today, but we will wait on the girls so that you can see them all at one time.

8th Grade Art
8th Graders just completed their unit on DESIGN. The final project that we worked on in class was a quilt design. The students painted pieces of paper and I provided printed pieces of fabric. Of course our quilts were made out of paper and glue, but the paper pieces we used were printed fabric. Students had to choose colors and patterns and select a paint color to accent the printed fabric. I think they turned out so nice and bright and colorful!
8th Grade Art began a new unit last week. The students will begin Printmaking and will work on Printmaking projects for the next 6 weeks. Printmaking is full of surprises and is hard to manipulate. It is sometimes hard for the students who have a perfectionist side to "let go" while learning about printmaking. They will learn that the art of printmaking will never come out exactly the way they intended. They will also discover that accidents can be good.
Printmaking projects will be graded on completion, effort, and followed directions due to the inability to control the outcome of the print. Hopefully, this will encourage them to try their best, but not be too upset if it does not turn out exactly how they expected it to turn out.
LEAF PRINTS
We painted a background, then went outside and collected leaves to be printed. Here are the results.
Monday's class worked on STENCIL PRINTS. Here is a perfect example of the ups and downs of PRINTMAKING. Only these 4 students were able to successfully print the stencil that they cut out. The other students had trouble with the stencil ripping while they were cutting it out. This project was not graded, but we wanted to share prints below.
