End of the Month of October

We are winding up the end of October and have completed some new projects to share with you.  Seventh grade art has been working on African Kente Cloth Paintings and Eighth grade art has been working on a mixed media project titled Autumn Starburst.

African Kente Cloth

We have had a few weeks that one class or the other has missed an art class period, so I have some "Legs in Shoes" projects from one 7th grade class and one 8th grade class.
This project is a mixed media composition using photos of shoes, sharpie, and glue.  We liked the results!

Talented Middle School Art Students

7th Grade Art is currently learning about the Art of Africa.  Last week we learned about the African Kente Cloth.  The students are painting an African Kente Cloth in Tempera Paint.

We will have some photos to share next week!

8th Grade completed their Raven paintings last week.  This week they are working on a design project that has to do with color, the season (autumn), shapes, and negative space.  Can't wait to post the results.

Here are some examples of the Raven paintings from last week.

A Few Weeks Have Come and Gone

Well, a few weeks have passed by quickly and I have not had much time to update our blogs, but finally here is some news!

7th Grade Art is split into two groups.  We have a girl class and boy class.  Which is perfect for 7th Grade art because it allows me to do different projects with them based on gender interests.  The 7th graders that I have this year are a fine bunch.

The boys have been working on Roman Soldier Drawings (2 weeks ago) and just finished their frogs on wood.  The boys really seemed to like working with wood, so I will have to see if I can come up with more wood ideas.  Any scrap wood donations would be great!

The 7th grade girls have been working on sewing skills over the last two weeks.  I was so impressed with how quickly they picked up on hand stitching. We used felt and thick thread (used for knitting) and some stuffing and had wonderful results.
Here are some samples of their work.

Now for the candid photos taken during class time while we were having all this fun.

Now for the 8th Grade Art Students...

Currently, they are working on paintings of Ravens and Crows.
Over two weeks ago I only met with one 8th grade group and they did non-objective paintings on aluminum foil.

For the foil painting they had to be very brave and experiment with the paint.  I liked the results.

Last week we worked on creating dimension in a design.  We used curved lines and value to get these results.
