WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON?

We have been bombarded with snow here in North Carolina this winter and have not had quite as much class time as a teacher might like, but we have still been busy in the art room.

7th Grade

7th Grade students have been finishing up with various projects.  We finished our chair paintings just today and the boys had an extra class and did some animal paintings in watercolors.

Examples

8th Grade Art

8th Grade students started their painting unit.  This past week and last they worked on a curvy line, design painting.  Students drew curvy lines in pencil on the paper and then painted (in watercolor) the sections/shapes that the lines formed.  After the paint dried they used water base markers to fill the spaces with different designs.  I love how some of these turned out!

This coming week 8th grade students will be painting clowns.
7th Grade Boys will be drawing dragons in pencil and 7th grade girls will be doing a mixed media flower project using torn paper and magazines.

February 5th

8th Grade Art

8th Graders are working on a unit in DRAWING.  This week they completed drawings of flowers in OIL PASTELS.  This is a project that we do every single year and we do that because they always turn out to be such good works of art.

Last week we had a short week due to school being closed for snow.  I did not get to meet with 7th Grade girls.  The 7th grade boys created Mixed Media Valentines.
On a piece of paper they wrote out a message of love in calligraphy ink.  They cut out the message in a heart shape.  They painted a background for their heart and glued it onto the painted background.
These two were selected from my favorites.  I love doing mixed media with the students.  For some reason, they are so brave and use their imaginations more in this discipline than in some of the others.

Who says Valentines Day has to cost money?  I love these handmade ones!!!

Late January

Despite the freezing temperatures and all of the illnesses that are going around the Triad, we are still producing outstanding art work at HPCA!

7th Grade Art

Seventh grade art just completed mixed media collage. We used either cars or flowers as the main piece and then surrounded the main piece with vintage book pages, and retro paper.  We then sponged on layers of tempera paint.  I think the results are fantastic!!!
It was such a fun and easy project.

TAG EXHIBITION AND MORE

Last night, I attended the Theatre Art Galleries Middle School Exhibition.  I was so proud of our students and their work.  The art work looked great and I think was the best wall at the show and the refreshments were good too.

Here are a couple photos from the exhibition.

Congratulations to all the students who showed work there.
